| Steel-Wiki

The Steel-Wiki is a project of for the construction of an encyclopedia on the subject of steel and digitization. Let us begin with the term steel:

Steel is the term used to refer to metallic alloys consisting mainly of iron. Steel is a mixture of carbon, several metals and other non-ferrous metals – most of which is iron. However, the terms steel and iron are often used as synonyms. The definition for steel according to DIN EN 10020: 2000-07 is most frequently applicable. Thereafter, the carbon content of the iron alloy must generally be less than 2.06 per cent; except for a limited number of chromium steels.

By means of individual processes such as alloying, heat treatment and cold forming or by combining these processes, steel properties can be selectively modified. But also by steel finishers, e.g. chromium or molybdenum, the properties of steel can change. Steel refiners are mainly used in the high-tech industries.

All about steel…

Steel materials

Steel is a mixture of carbon, several metals and other non-ferrous metals – most of which is iron.

This category contains lists of the most important steel materials.

Steel processing

With these methods it is possible to process steel: welding, cutting, milling, bending, punching, drilling, edging or turning.

Steel forming

Here are all methods that are used for the production of steel products such as rolling and drawing with the corresponding types of rolls (hot rolling, cold rolling, transverse rolling, rotary cross rolling, flat baking transverse rolling, longitudinal rolling, cross rolling) and drawing types (cold drawing, deep drawing, by pulling).

Alloy components

The properties of steel can be adapted in various ways to the appropriate requirements. In the case of the alloying constituents, it is fundamentally necessary to distinguish whether they are carbide, austenite or ferrite-forming agents or for which purpose they are added to the steel.

Material treatments

Here, all material treatments for steel are sorted alphabetically. From annealing to hardening to processing.

Steel products/varieties

All about steel products and steel varieties.

Surface treatments of steel

There are many ways to treat the surface of steel like Blasting, Galvanizing, Powder painting, Cataphoretic painting, Grinding and Polishing.

Certificates and materials test certificates

These certificates and material test certificates confirm the quality of the corresponding products.
